Follow up After PDO Threads: What to Do (First 2 Weeks)
By Saged NYC Beauty & Wellness | September 28, 2026
University Heights, Bronx, NY | Quick 30-minute follow up visits
If you remember one rule after your PDO thread lift follow up, make it this: keep everything gentle and keep pressure off your face. For the first 1 to 2 weeks, I want you icing swelling for the first 48 hours, sleeping elevated, and skipping workouts and facial massage so the threads can settle the way they’re meant to. In the Bronx, I love doing threads and follow ups in cooler September weather because less sweat usually means less irritation around those tiny entry points.
First 24 to 48 hours after your follow up: the rules that prevent extra swelling
Right after your follow up visit, my goal is simple: protect your healing and keep bruising from getting worse. Even when you’re feeling fine, your tissue is still settling.
My top priorities (0 to 48 hours): ice swelling in short rounds, keep your face clean, and avoid makeup on the entry points for 24 hours.
- Ice: I generally recommend a clean cold pack wrapped in a soft cloth for about 10 to 15 minutes at a time, with breaks in between. Don’t press hard. Let the cold do the work.
- Cleansing: Use gentle cleansing only. Lukewarm water is your friend. Pat dry. No scrubs, no brushes, no cleansing devices.
- Makeup: Keep makeup off any entry points for 24 hours. If you’re covering bruising elsewhere, use a light touch and avoid tugging your skin.
- Heat and alcohol: Skip alcohol and avoid sauna, steam, and hot yoga. Heat tends to increase swelling and bruising.
- Chewing: Go easy on heavy chewing for a bit. Think soft, simple foods the first day if your jaw feels tender.
If you commute through Fordham-area transit and you’re back to class or work fast, keep a clean cold pack and your aftercare basics ready. These steps are short on purpose. They fit real schedules.
Days 3 to 7: how I keep you from accidentally shifting threads
This is the week where people feel better and then do too much. I get it. But day 3 is not the time for a hard workout, a deep stretch class, or a “let me press on that” check in the mirror.
Activity limits that matter
- Exercise: I generally recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for 1 to 2 weeks. Sweat and blood flow can increase swelling, and heavy movement can add unwanted tension.
- Facial massage: Avoid facial massages for 1 to 2 weeks. This includes gua sha, facial rollers, and “just a little rub” around the treatment area.
- Dental work: Hold off on dental work in the first couple of weeks if you can. A wide open mouth and pressure around the jaw can stress the area.
- Heat: Skip saunas, steam rooms, and high-heat workouts for about 2 weeks unless I tell you otherwise.
Sleep positioning that helps swelling settle
Sleep on your back with your head elevated for at least 3 to 7 nights. If you’re a side sleeper, try a pillow “bumper” on both sides so you don’t roll over without realizing. It’s not fancy. It works.
Swelling timeline after a PDO threads follow up: what’s normal, what’s not
Swelling and bruising are common after threads. Most people notice the most swelling early, then it gradually calms down over the first week. Some tenderness, tightness, and a “pulled” feeling can also happen while things settle.
Usually normal: swelling that improves day by day, mild bruising, tenderness to touch, tightness when you make big facial expressions.
Not something to ignore: increasing pain, spreading redness, fever, drainage (pus), or numbness that doesn’t improve.
If you’re coming to me from Morris Heights, Kingsbridge, Tremont, Riverdale, or Yonkers, I keep follow-up appointments simple and focused so you can get checked and get on with your day.
Products and hygiene for 2 to 4 weeks: keep it boring, keep it clean
After threads, your skin doesn’t need a new routine. It needs a calm routine. I generally recommend gentle cleanser, simple hydration, and sun protection. And that’s it for a bit.
- Avoid aggressive exfoliants for 2 to 4 weeks. That includes strong acids, scrubs, and anything that makes you peel on purpose.
- Use only products I recommend for your healing phase. If something stings, stop and tell me. Don’t push through irritation.
- Hands off: no picking at tiny scabs. Let them fall off naturally.
- Sun protection matters. Even if you also do chemical peel or facial peel treatments at other times, threads are a “keep it calm” window.
A lot of my regulars also come in for other services like microneedling, sculptra, botox, dysport, and even weight loss injections. The timing matters. If you’re planning anything else, ask first so I can space it out safely around your thread healing.
When to reach out to Saged NYC in University Heights (and what your 30-minute follow up covers)
My follow up visit is a focused 30 minutes. I check how you’re healing, look at symmetry, confirm what you’re seeing is on track, and answer the questions you didn’t think to ask on day one. People tell me they appreciate how clearly I explain things, and I take that seriously. You shouldn’t leave feeling unsure.
“The support staff was equally impressive, checking on me throughout and providing detailed aftercare instructions.”

If you’re still researching threads, I also wrote a deeper overview of PDO Threads services in University Heights. It’s a good read if you’re comparing a PDO thread lift to other options like lip filler lips, lip fillers near me searches, or a med spa near me that does injectables.
A quick note on “follow up” communication: calls and emails still matter
People ask about a follow up call or a follow up email after a phone call because they don’t want to bother me. You’re not bothering me. If something feels off, send the phone call follow up email or text with a clear subject like “PDO threads swelling day 4” and include a photo in good lighting. That helps me give you a faster answer.
I’m big on clear communication and calm aftercare. That’s how you protect results, especially in the first two weeks.
